I am a firm believer in our emotions affecting our health.  When we are thinking thoughts that cause us to feel negative emotion, we do not feel good physically.  When I get upset, I always end up with a stomach ache.  When we're stressed or upset, our bodies suffer.  Negative thoughts don’t just make you feel bad emotionally, they hurt you physically.  Emotional turmoil affects your immune system by stressing out your body and causing your nervous system to work overtime.  Our bodies cannot function as well when we are under chronic stress.  

Your thoughts and words about yourself, your life, and other people affect your health.  When you say “I am sick of this or that”, you can literally make yourself sick from the negative emotion that you feel.   Negative words bring negative energy into our vibration and affect us on a physical level.  When you are thinking thoughts that do not feel good, you are cutting yourself off from the stream of well-being or source energy that is flowing to you.  When you feel positive emotion you are allowing source energy to flow freely to you and through you.  Happy thoughts = better health.  More joy = longer life.  People who are depressed do not live as long.  

Your body is showing you how your thoughts and emotions are affecting you.  When you feel pain or sickness in your body, it’s a sign that you need to give yourself more kind and loving thoughts.  Instead of feeling like you have to get rid of your cold or get over your condition, think of sending more light, energy, and breath to that area of discomfort.  Know that it’s your cells asking you to allow more well-being to flow to them.

Allow your body to heal itself and let your cells receive the well-being they’ve been asking for by finding a way to feel good and not focusing on feeling sick or in pain.  Your mind plays a big role in your healing process.  The placebo effect shows us how our mind can heal our body.  When you believe something will heal you, it has a much greater chance of healing than if you don’t believe.  It’s all your state of mind and your willingness to care about your emotional state and choose thoughts that make you feel good.  

Tell yourself yourself that there is no sickness, only a stream of wellness that you are either allowing to flow to you or cutting yourself off from.  Allow it to flow to you again.  See all of your relationships in perfect harmony.  Imagine well-being flowing into every cell of your body.  Exhale out any stuck energy or anything you don’t need to be holding onto.  Breathe into wherever you feel pain or discomfort and see light filling that area and it then filling your whole body.  Imagine yourself healed and in perfect health.  See yourself feeling and looking the way that you want, laughing and living life fully and joyfully.  

You might not feel better immediately, but continue to imagine that you are well and that light is surrounding you and flowing through you.  Do not take score immediately of how you’re feeling to tell you if you are healing.  Just continue to see yourself as completely healed, healthy and happy, and full of life.

Why meditate?

Meditation is a stillness of the mind that involves the practice of slowing down your thoughts.  It is a conscious focused awareness on connecting with your breath and being present in your body so that you can fully experience the now, the present moment.  Meditation purifies our body with the breath and calms our mind by enabling us to release thoughts that do not serve us.  The purpose of meditation is to connect with our body and to feel good.  You can meditate for as long as you like, but I believe ten to twenty minutes per day to be perfect.  There are some days when I miss, but I try to maintain a regular practice of several times per week.

When you meditate, you are practicing controlling your mind by focusing on one thing.  I like to focus my mind on my breath.  As I begin meditating, I close my eyes and begin breathing.  I inhale and exhale fully, and I will often count my breaths to help keep me focused on my breathing.  When I get to ten breaths, I start counting from one again.  After several times of counting to ten (usually around five minutes or so), I can stop counting because my mind begins to slow down and it becomes easier to let go of thoughts and focus on my breath.

At first it was very hard and a little torturous to just sit and breathe.  The first time I tried, I wanted to quit in the first five minutes, but I refused to let myself stop before the time was up.  I thought about all the things I could be doing instead of just sitting and breathing.  I kept going and continued breathing and after about ten minutes (I’m not really sure how long because I kept my eyes closed) I suddenly began to feel really good.  A wave of peace and love washed over me and felt like I was floating.  I could barely feel my body.  And then the time was up.  

Now I look forward to meditating, to that feeling of floating and of detachment from my busy thoughts.  I love the calmness that washes over me.  It’s a very powerful yet soft sensation.  When I open my eyes, I am happy and everything looks more beautiful.  Since I’ve started meditating, I notice the world around me more.  I see beauty everywhere and colors are brighter.  I appreciate things that I didn’t notice before.  Meditating naturally raises your vibration by helping you release resistance in that it stops negative thoughts.  It clears your mind and reverses the unhealthy effects of stress.  When I meditate, I feel more at ease and centered.

How to meditate:

Sit on a pillow with your legs loosely crossed or if that is not comfortable then sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor.  Sit tall with your shoulders back and your chest open because slouching impairs breathing.  It can be uncomfortable to sit still and with good posture at first.  If you prefer, you can lie down, but sometimes you can get sleepy and it can be harder to focus your mind on your breathing  Set a timer on your phone and start with ten minutes.  Then, when you’re ready to sit for longer, set it for fifteen minutes and maybe work up to twenty if you like.  It isn’t necessary to spend hours per day meditating.  We are here to experience life, not withdraw ourselves from it for too long.  

Be playful about it.  Don’t be too hard on yourself when your mind wanders.  Controlling your mind is a lot like trying to hold onto a squirming kitten.  Recognize when you are thinking, but don’t judge your thoughts or yourself.  Simply notice that you are thinking again, and bring your mind back to your breath.  Allow whatever thoughts you started thinking to dissipate as you focus on being present in the moment.  Meditation teaches us to be more present in every moment of our life.  Happiness is not something that you strive for.  It can be found in every moment if you will allow yourself to enjoy it by being present and noticing the beauty that is there for you.

Just breathe.

In yoga, the word prana means life force energy.  Pranayama is sanskrit word for the science of breathing.  So when you are breathing, you are bringing life force energy into your body.  Breathing helps in every form of exercise.  It calms the mind, relaxes the body, and releases tension and stress.  It purifies the cells, organs, and lungs.  You are literally cleansing your body from the inside out by breathing in fresh oxygen, bringing new energy into your body, and releasing old energy.  

When people are stressed, they tend to hold their breath.  Chronic stress is not good for our bodies and can lead to disease.  It also makes you age faster because our nervous system has to work overtime.  Stress reduction techniques that involve conscious, deep breathing, such as yoga and meditation, release stress because they calm the nervous system and allow the mind to rest.  When our mind is more relaxed, our body is too. 

There is a direct correlation between the mind and body, between our emotional state and our health, between our stress levels and our immune system.  Breathing relaxes our mind and reduces tension which helps us feel better.  When we feel better emotionally, we are healthier.  Modern western medicine is realizing the link between our physical state and our emotional state.  More and more doctors are prescribing meditation and stress reduction techniques like deep breathing and yoga to their patients as part of their healing process.  

When we concentrate on our breath, we allow our mind to rest from all its incessant thoughts.  This allows us to feel more connected to our body and to be alive in the present moment.  When you’re not living in the present, you’re not really living your life fully.  Time passes by and you hardly notice.  Life passes and you barely experienced it.  Many of us spend so much time regretting past mistakes or anxiously awaiting an uncertain future, afraid of what might go wrong, instead of being in the flow and experiencing the moments as they come.  When you are living more in the present, any problems that might arise are more easily solved because you are focused.  Breathing under pressure helps you to stay calm and present.  Breathing gives you energy and makes you feel more alive.

A breathing meditation with positive affirmations:

Sit comfortably in a chair or on the floor (you can lie down if sitting requires too much effort).

Start to breathe gently and deeply into the heart area so that your whole chest moves as you breathe.  As you exhale, feel your shoulders relax.  Notice the how you feel more present in your body as you breathe into your chest and back.  As you breathe into your chest, feel how it opens your heart and puts you in a more receptive state.

Now, as you inhale and draw the breath into your chest, think to yourself "I am”.

Then, as your exhale, think a positive word or statement to yourself such as: light, abundant, prosperous, in perfect health, becoming, all that I wish to be, successful, joy, love, peace, guided on the my path, realizing my life’s work, wisdom, harmony, beauty, vitality, ready for all of the good that the universe has in store for me, allowing, ease, calm, relaxed, expansion, confidence, pure positive energy.  

Continue to do this- inhaling as you think ‘I am” and exhaling thinking a positive word or statement that resonates with you.  Feel the positive emotion that each word provokes.  When you are ready to stop, softly open your eyes.  You are complete.

Lead with your heart.

My spiritual guru Abraham-Hicks says that, “We cannot focus upon the weaknesses of one another and evoke strengths.”  You cannot focus upon the negative qualities or the things that you think others are doing wrong, and expect them to change.  The way to evoke positive change in others is by changing your perception of them.  Start focusing on their positive aspects and the qualities you want to see in them and you will draw them out.  There is always a way for both people to win.  You might not see it, but the universe is omnipotent and can orchestrate everything beautifully and beyond what you can imagine.

What’s more important to you, being right or being happy?  Often, we automatically assume that the other person is against us if they don’t agree with us, but no two people have the same perspective.  We all have a different point of view because of our unique past experiences and beliefs.  It’s a waste of time to try to make others agree with you.  Allow yourself to accept that they really do see things differently and there isn’t a right or wrong, there is only your perspective of what’s right or wrong or good or bad.  

Recognize that when others strike out or cause pain within you, it’s likely because they’re not feeling good about themselves.  And often when you strike out at another person it’s because you aren’t feeling good about yourself.  Everyone is responsible for their own anger or hurt.  They may have acted as a catalyst, but it’s always your choice in how you react and handle the situation.  And it’s also your choice as to whether or not you hold onto grudges and thoughts that cause you pain.  Holding onto resentment only hurts you.  

Forgiveness is for you, it’s for giving yourself peace of mind.  Forgive and let go of your anger or hurt by going to your heart for answers.  Imagine you are embracing the person you need to forgive with your whole heart.  Feel your heart growing bigger and surrounding them with love and forgiveness.  Hold your heart open and focus your loving energy on them.  

When you go to your heart for answers, you open the doors for a new solution to appear.  Let go and trust that whatever needs to be resolved will be.  Don’t allow your ego to continue to bring you painful unwanted memories from the past that hold you back from moving forward.  The past is the past.  The present moment is what matters.

What’s your story?

"The vision that you glorify in your mind, the ideal that you enthrone in your heart -this you will build your life by, and this you will become.” — James Allen

A great way to shift your thinking into a more positive and expectant state is to write your story or your life “script".  Writing down and imagining that you have the life that you want helps it to feel more like a reality.  Paint a picture of your life as you would like it to be with enough details that you can see it in your mind, but not too many details that it feels unattainable.  

Telling your story should feel good to you when you tell it.  Talk about your life in a positive light, as though things are going well for you and you are excited about your future.  Pretend that it is a few years from now and you are reflecting back on all your accomplishments.  What did you accomplish?  What does your life look like?  How do you spend your time?  What do you hope for yourself?  

Talk about the parts of your life that you like and speak as though everything else is getting better and better.  Leave out and ignore the aspects of your life that you don’t like.  Imagine they have already disappeared or transformed into something better.  This will likely feel like you’re writing a fictional story, but it’s not meant to be a factual documentary.  Telling it like it is only perpetuates how it is, so if you want your life to improve, you’ve got to tell an improved story.  A different story will bring different results.

A major part of this is feeling good as you imagine and tell your story.  Use your imagination to see yourself in the third person as if you were watching yourself in a movie of your life.  Choose the type of environment you want to live in, work in, socialize in.  See yourself as confident, prosperous, and in love with life.  Now be in your body as if you were there in that future space, and feel how happy, satisfied, and proud you would feel of the life that you've created for yourself.

To create the life that you want, it’s important to ask yourself what is it that you want?  If you could have the type of life that you desire, what would that actually look like.  Describe yourself in the first person.  Talk about where you are living (In a house or an apartment? In the city or the country?)  Describe your state of mind (Are you joyful, peaceful, vibrant, relaxed?)  Talk about how you have plenty of time and money to do the things you like to do, and have lots of friends and social engagements.  Maybe you have a romantic partner that is everything you’ve been looking for and you are so happy and in love, or you’re having fun going on lots of dates with interesting people.  Include a wonderful, fulfilling career, as well as health, family, community --anything that is important to you.  

You could write that, "Things are always working out for me, even better than I can imagine.  Life is good, life is abundant, life is fun.  I love my life.  I love envisioning my life the way that I want it to be.  I am excited for my future and for my life right now and it's only going to get better and better.”  There is no right or wrong way to tell your improved story.  Just remember that the story you tell is the basis of your life.  So tell it the way you want it to be.  And remember to read it to yourself often.

“I am choosing to remember all of my successes and accomplishments and I am letting go of any memories that are not serving me.”

Allow yourself to receive.

Life gives birth to desire.  It is our wanting that creates expansion.  We are here to focus our energy toward something.  Being able to create through thought, through our imagination, is a gift.  People die when they no longer want anything.  Without a reason to create, we lose our desire to keep living.  Life would not continue to evolve and new things would no longer be created without desire.  It is our desire for something better that creates new ways of doing things, traveling, and communicating with each other.  Without wanting, we wouldn’t have made the advances in technology that we’ve made. 

When I use the word “want”, I am referring to a desire that I want to focus upon so that source energy can flow through me and bring it into my experience.  For some people, the word “want” has a negative connotation because they associate it with a feeling of discomfort.  They want but don’t believe they can attain their desire, and therefore it’s an uncomfortable yearning.  Some of us may remember wanting something in the past that we didn’t end up getting, and so we are discouraged immediately.  We may try to tell ourselves that we don’t really want it, but we can’t help wanting something.  It’s our fear that we won’t get what we want that makes wanting feel like too great of a risk.

It’s not the wanting that's the problem.  The problem lies in our getting upset that we don’t have it, and becoming so attached to our desire that we constantly worry we won’t get it, that we end up holding ourselves apart from it.  Our fear can be so strong, because we want it so badly, that we don’t allow it to manifest.  If we would just enjoy the process of wanting something, knowing that the universe heard our wish, we would get what we want.  Everything you want can and will be yours if you will relax and know that it’s coming instead of constantly worrying it won’t.  Do not use your immediate reality to tell you whether or not it is coming.  Trust and use your imagination to imagine you already have what you want.  

Be satisfied where you are now and eager for more.  Appreciating where you are and what you’ve learned, while at the same time excitedly awaiting what’s coming next, puts you in the perfect place of allowing what you want to come.  Be specific but also general by not worrying too much about the details.  Think about what you want and why you want it.  Don’t worry about how, where, and when it’s going to come because that creates resistance and unease within you.  Hold onto the general feeling of what you want and trust that the universe is bringing it to you in the best possible way.

Affirmations for allowing what you want to come:

“I am enjoying the process of figuring out what I like and what I don’t like because it's helping me to create exactly what I want.”

“I am attracting my desires to me and I am excited when the evidence of their manifestation shows itself to me.” 

“I am perfect where I am and I am moving toward something that will satisfy me even more.”

Accessing intuition.

“Do not assume that divine guidance flows only when you are in need of help.  Guidance continues to flow whether or not you have problems.” -Caroline Myss

Source energy is always available to you.  It’s only you who can pinch yourself off from aligning with it through the thoughts you’re thinking.  When you’re feeling good, thinking positively, appreciating, you are aligning with source energy.  You are allowing it to flow through you and guide you.  When you’re feeling bad, thinking negative thoughts, criticizing yourself or others, you are not allowing it into your experience.

The universe is constantly guiding you on your chosen path, and your intuition is always directing you and sending you messages.  Pay attention to your ideas and feelings such as urges, flashes of ideas, and insights, all of which are moving you in a certain direction.  Your intuition does not criticize or tell you what you “should” do.  Rather, it’s more like a soft inner voice or a feeling of being drawn to something. When you operate from your intuition, things happen easily and you find doors opening.  If you’re finding doors closed, it’s the universe telling you there’s a better way to go and to look around for another avenue.  

Intuition is spontaneous, so being flexible is very important.  Stay in tune with your intuition by living in the moment and paying attention to your feelings.  Following your intuition and acting on your feelings takes trust and faith, especially since intuition usually only shows you one step at a time.  Your intellect wants to plan everything out logically.  Use your intellect to set goals and carry them out, but continue to listen to your intuition by being flexible and open to new ideas and experiences. Remind yourself of the times when you listened to your intuition and let go of your plans, and things worked out even better than you had expected.  

Source energy is with you at all times.  You can access it by closing your eyes and breathing into your body.  Be still and begin to quiet your mind by focusing on your breath.  Inhale deeply for five counts and exhale fully for five counts.  Continue to breathe slowly and deeply like this for several minutes.  When you are still and calm, you will feel it.  To me, it feels like a soft sensation of ease, love, and inner peace.  It’s easy to overlook it, but the more you listen and ask for guidance, the stronger you will begin to feel it and allow it into your experience.  

Affirmations for aligning with source energy and allowing your intuition to guide you:

“I am connected with source energy at all times and I am allowing it to illuminate my path.”

“I trust in the universe and I am allowing my intuition to guide me.”

“I am flexible and open to new ideas and experiences.”

Good vibrations.

We live in a vibrational universe, and the Law of Attraction causes you to attract what you give out.  You rendevouz with circumstances and people who are sending out the same vibration as you.  How do you know what vibrational level you’re on?  When you are feeling good, you’re vibrating at a higher level then you are when you’re feeling bad.  Why is it important to raise our vibrational energy?  Because feeling good attracts more good and allows you to open the doors to receiving all that you are wanting.  When you feel bad, you are causing resistance and making it difficult for your desires to manifest into your experience.  

The universe does not respond to your words or actions, it responds to your vibration.  You don’t have to speak any words about what you want.  The universe will still know exactly what you are wanting through your feelings.  And it will deliver…but you won’t attain it in your reality until you become a vibrational match to your desires.  That means, you have to find a way to feel good and feel that what you desire is already coming into your experience.  You’ve got to stop thinking about what you don’t want, what's bothering you, or why you don’t have what you want.  Instead, think only about what you want, what you like, and what it will feel like to have what you desire.  Then, what you want can come because that’s what you’re focused upon, and therefore you’re a vibrational match to it.  Don’t worry about what is “true” now because the “truth” will shift when you shift your vibration.

Your vibration will naturally rise as you release resistance.  Breathing releases resistance.  Yoga releases resistance.  Any form of relaxation will release resistance because it slows down your thoughts and allows you to stop thinking about whatever might be bothering you for a little while.  You’re in the moment and not worrying about the future or thinking about the past.  It’s worrying and criticizing yourself and others that causes you to create resistance and lowers your vibration.

Words can raise your vibration.  Saying positive words to yourself helps to put your mind in a more positive state, raises your energy, and shifts your thoughts to a higher level.  Choose words that feel good as you say them, and say them over and over.  Words like love, clarity, joy, prosperity, ease, rejuvenation, relaxation, allow, abundance, harmony, vitality have an uplifting affect. 

So...raising your vibration is quite simple.  Feel good.  Say positive, uplifting words to yourself.  Look for things around you to appreciate.  Focus on all the good things in your life.  Notice the beauty in nature.  Breathe.  Keep your mind focused on what you want, not on what you don’t (yet) have.  And let it come to you!

Change yourself. Change the world.

Since our thoughts affect the earth telepathically, we all have more power to affect the world than we realize.  Each of us can assist mankind in achieving peace by evolving our thoughts.  Hold a vision in your mind of peace for the planet.  Picture loving exchanges between different cultures and the cessation of violence and hunger.  See everyone having food and shelter and thriving within their communities.  See the animals and the environment in perfect harmony.  Imagine new ways of transportation and more technological advances being made.

Believe in abundance for yourself and others.  As a society begins to believe that there can be enough for everyone, new discoveries will be made.  We will find new ways to provide unlimited energy and resources that do not pollute or deplete the earth.  If we start believing it is possible, it will be created.  Our thoughts will lead to transformation on the planet.  Everything that now exists was first created through thought.  We need to let go of the idea of scarcity.  It’s the idea of scarcity that causes fear, war, and jealousy.  

Focusing on how bad the problems of the world are doesn’t bring solutions.  Rather, it intensifies them because whatever we think about expands.  Focusing our thoughts in a positive way creates solutions.  I am not claiming that we should never take any action, but taking action toward finding a solution is different than taking action with the intent of fighting a problem.  They have the same goal, but they are not the same energetic focus.  

As you choose higher, more positive thoughts, learn from your experiences, and radiate more love and happiness, you are making a valuable contribution to mankind.  We are all connected.  We are made of energy and we send out and communicate through energy.  Gandhi said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”  Be the leader.  Be the one who is willing to be kind, generous, compassionate, and vulnerable.  Don’t wait for others to be open and loving toward you first.  Your actions will inspire others and transform the world around you.

Be the boss of your own mind.

Taking care of your mental state is just as important as caring for your physical state.  Many of us are so picky about the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the cars we drive, even the people we date, but how picky are you about the thoughts you choose to entertain?  It might not seem like it most of the time, but we have complete control over our minds and what we choose to think about.  

Thoughts are magnetic in that they attract similar thoughts.  When you’re in a positive state of mind and thinking good feeling thoughts, it’s easier to draw more positive, higher level thoughts into your mind.  But when you’re focused upon unhappy, negative thoughts, you will likely attract more of the same and continue on a downward spiral.

Your inner dialogue is important.  The way you speak to yourself and the thoughts you choose determine the events, people, and objects your attract.  Learning to control your inner dialogue is about making your mind obey you rather than control you.  Most of us are sloppy with our thinking and allow random or unwanted thoughts to percolate within our mind, thus causing us to feel like we are at the mercy of whatever makes its way into our psyche.  

You can learn to rule your mind and control which thoughts you consciously allow to stay in your mind.  The way to control your thoughts is to pay attention to your feelings.  Observe your thoughts and your words to yourself and others.  Notice how they make you feel.  Sense that your thoughts are not who you are, but are often just internal chatter and triggered by things going on around you.  Learning to control your inner dialogue takes practice, but the more you practice the better you get.  You can train your mind to think more positively by turning away negative thoughts, saying no to them as they come up, and instead reaching for better feeling thoughts.  Practice choosing more positive, higher thoughts and words.  

You can learn to refrain from thinking about things that are not serving you.  Notice when you’re not feeling good and then notice what you’re thinking about or telling yourself.  Choose to see the good in situations and the positive aspects in people, instead of noticing only what is missing or wrong.  Alter your thoughts and you will alter your experiences.

Set yourself free.

There is nothing more wonderful or important in life than freedom.  Not just physical freedom, but freedom of the mind.  I say this because you can be physically free, but you can’t experience true freedom if you are bound by limiting beliefs and the opinions of others.  Freedom comes when you acknowledge that you have the right to choose your thoughts and to change your perspective in every moment.  

Freedom is the release of limitations.  Many of us put limitations on ourselves all the time without even realizing we’re doing it.  Allow yourself to see that we really do have free will because we have the ability to choose our thoughts.  You are free to decide what you want to imagine and dream about.  You get to choose how you view your life.  See it the way you want it to be, not the way other people tell you to see it.  Stop chaining yourself to the opinions and beliefs others have of you.  Choose for yourself which beliefs you will hold onto and which ones you will release.

Freedom is not about avoiding all responsibilities.  It’s about knowing what is important to you and choosing what to focus upon.  Freedom is listening to your intuition about what is right for you and making decisions based on how you feel.  Only you can know what is right or wrong for you.  Trust that you are making the right decisions and resist the urge to constantly second guess yourself.  Making a decision and believing in your choice is freeing and empowering.

Nobody can control your thoughts but you.  Set yourself free by taking control of your mind and paying attention to how you feel.  Decide that you want to feel good and then commit to choosing thoughts and beliefs that make you feel good.  You always have a choice.

The Essence of Beauty.

Today, July 10th, is my birthday.  Every year I get a bit anxious around the time of my birthday.  I think about what I’ve accomplished in the past year and what more I want to accomplish.  I also think about getting older and I worry that my age might be starting to show.  But the truth is I don’t want to be in my 20’s again.  I feel more beautiful now at 32 than I ever did in my 20’s.  I truly believe that the reason I have become more beautiful is because my energy has shifted.  I no longer compare myself to others, and I feel good about who I am and my place in the world.  

Outer beauty is subjective, but inner beauty is absolute.  True beauty originates from within.  You can see a woman who is very beautiful on the outside, and then when you speak to her she can become ugly depending on the energy she emits.  If she is rude, angry, jealous, or unkind, then suddenly your perception of her shifts.  On the other hand, a woman who isn’t as beautiful at first glance can become enchanting and turn into one of the most beautiful people you’ve ever met because her energy and spirit shine through.  

I want to be one of these women.  I am much more excited when someone tells me that they love my energy rather than my looks.  It is a person’s energy, their essence, that makes them attractive.  This is true for both men and women.  I have met guys who, maybe at first glance, weren’t the most attractive guys I’d ever seen, but they became the most attractive guys I had ever met once I was in their presence.  Charm, generosity, sensitivity, compassion, self-respect, confidence, and a sense of humor is so attractive.  Being engaged and interested in other people, and being present when you’re with them is attractive.  Caring about the happiness of others, but taking responsibility for your own happiness is attractive and so important in relationships.  It doesn’t matter how many gifts and dinners or displays of love and affection you lavish on someone.  If they don’t take control of their own state of mind, nothing you can do or give to them will make them truly happy.  Only they can find happiness through the thoughts and actions they choose.

Happiness comes from within.  Beauty comes from within.  Confidence comes from within.  It is a knowingness that you are enough, that you are worthy, that you are special and unique and lovable and beautiful, no matter what anyone else says or thinks.  You can have millions of people telling you that you are beautiful, but if you don’t think so then it really doesn’t matter.  All that matters is how you feel about yourself.  If you are constantly seeking approval from others, you will never feel whole.  You will feel jealous of anyone else who is beautiful.  Just because someone else is attractive, it does not mean that you aren’t.  Their beauty does not take away from yours, but your jealousy does take away from your own beauty.  There are lots of beautiful people in the world, and comparing yourself to every attractive woman will not make you more attractive nor will it make you feel good. 

When you can appreciate things about yourself and see beauty in yourself, you are better able to connect with people because you aren’t mentally cutting them down to make yourself feel better.  You cannot give love and respect to others if you aren’t giving those things to yourself.  There is beauty within you.  There is love within you.  All you have to do is allow yourself to see it and feel it.  We don’t always feel like our most attractive self, but appreciate what you can when you can.  Appreciate your quick wit, devilish laugh, or anything that makes you the unique person that you are.  Love your bones and muscles because they hold you upright.  Appreciate your nose, whatever the size, because it allows you to smell and taste and enjoy food.  Love your eyes because they let you see the beauty of this earth.  The more you practice looking for ways to appreciate and love parts of yourself, the easier it will become to love more of yourself.  You will become more beautiful because your energy, your essence, will shine brighter and brighter.  That’s where real beauty comes from.  And that kind of beauty never fades away.

Expect the best. Period.

Trust is expecting the best to happen, believing in your ability to create what you want, and knowing that you deserve to have it.  Trust is the link between your mental world and your physical world.  Realize that your dreams are already real on the mental plane, they are just waiting for the perfect time to appear in your physical reality.  

Hope is wanting something, but not really believing that it will come.  It’s doubting yourself and your power.  There is a sense of fear and a lack of trust that things will work out.  It’s your fear and thoughts of your desires not manifesting that keep them from becoming your physical reality.  

I thoroughly dislike the saying, “Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.”  There is no trust in that statement.  There is pessimism and a belief that things don’t usually work out in your favor.  That the universe is somehow against you.  It is your choice to see things that way.  If you believe it is so, than it is so.  If you believe the universe has your back and that everything is working out for your highest good, than that is the reality you will experience.  

I think where many of us get caught up is the timing.  We think that because what we want hasn’t manifested right away or by a certain point in our lives, that things aren’t working out for us and the universe is failing us somehow.  We think what we really want isn’t coming coming, so we settle for something we don’t really want because it’s better than nothing.  

Slow down.  Enjoy the steps along the way.  See the bigger picture.

Everything you want is coming, but it’s coming at the perfect time.  It may take longer than you expect because you may still be developing in some areas of your life.  Trust that the time delay is actually right on track and is enabling you to be fully ready when your desire does manifest.  Trust in the intelligence of the universe.  Trust your higher self to bring you the right things at the right time.  Tell yourself, “All is coming."

What is success?

We all want to feel and be successful, but I think many of us make the mistake of judging our success by how much money we have or what job title we hold.  We compare ourselves to others and discount our own personal growth and level of happiness.  True success is having the right amount of money, transforming an old habit or negative belief, releasing a fear, doing things you love, and developing and recognizing your unique strengths.  Success is creating something when you need it, making a contribution to others, and loving and respecting yourself and others.  It is growing and learning from all of your experiences.  

Everything that you have learned and all of your skills and experiences are sources of future income and are part of your net worth.  Feel successful now by recognizing all of the wonderful things you have experienced, learned, and accomplished.  Learn to appreciate yourself and your successes, even the small ones, for as you acknowledge them you will build upon them.  Whatever you pay attention to grows and increases.  Paying attention to your past accomplishments and successes allows you to create successful, positive experiences in the future.

Do not feel jealous or threatened by others who are successful.  Begin now to believe that everyone’s success means even more success for you.  It is not wrong to feel competitive at your job if it helps you do your best.  But don’t feel that others who succeed in what you are doing can take away from your success.  There is an unlimited supply of success, and everyone can be successful if they would allow themselves to believe it is possible for them.  

As you begin to feel and become successful, challenge yourself to ask for more.  Indulge in unlimited thinking and expand your imagination of what is possible for you to have.  Keep opening to even more.  Trust that as more comes in you will develop new structures and ways to handle it.  Don’t worry about the details of bigger success, just enjoy allowing yourself to dream.  Picture yourself and everyone around you as successful, abundant, and happy.  There is more than enough for all of us.

It’s about the journey, not the destination.

Dreaming about and imagining something you desire, or aspire to be, is quite fun when you believe it is attainable.  Sometimes visualizing having what you desire can be just as fun as actually having it.  Of course, it is wonderful to obtain the very thing you’ve been wanting...but then what?  What’s next?  Life is constantly inspiring us to ask ourselves, “What is the next thing I want to have, or do, or be?"

Many of us have been taught to work hard and to struggle our way through life, but what is the point of getting somewhere if you are miserable the whole time while you are getting there?  Abraham-Hicks says that the whole reason we are here, our purpose for life, is joy.  If you are not enjoying, imagining, and creating your life experience, then you are not living the life you are meant to live.  

This is something that is really changing the way that I view my life.  I used to think that I had to achieve my goals within my self-imposed timeframe for me to feel like I was leading a successful life.  Now I am realizing that all of that stress I put on myself for not being at a certain place in my life at a certain time was unnecessary and pointless.  I spent a lot of time worrying that I wouldn’t reach my goals, and I didn’t notice that everything was actually working out perfectly for me.  If I had relaxed just a little, by trusting in the universe that things would work out, and if I had enjoyed myself a little more while on the way to achieving my goals, I would have been a whole lot happier.  

When you take a vacation, you take it for the fun, for the experiences along the way.  The destination is only the reason for the journey.  Life is the ultimate journey.  It’s forever full of inspirations, new ideas and experiences, and we will never get it done.  When we do achieve our dreams it is wonderful, but there are always new desires.  We never stop wanting because we never stop becoming.  Forget the idea that, once you have everything you want, then and only then, will you be happy.  You’re always going to want more, to become more, to continue evolving, so the journey never ends.  And that’s a good thing.

You are always reaching upward.  Even when things seem uncomfortable and dark, and the path may seem difficult and steep, don’t think you are off your path.  There will be challenging parts, and then areas where you are running, dancing, skipping, and traveling with ease.  Allow yourself to love and appreciate the bumpy road as well as the smooth parts, and thank yourself for the courage to keep going and reaching upward.

What is reality, really?

The Talmud says, "We do not see things as they are.  We see them as we are.”  

We think that what we see is reality, but really it is our perception of reality….which isn’t actually real since we all have different perceptions.  What matters is what is real for you.  The only reality that exists is the one within your own mind.  You cannot live or see or experience outside of your own individual beliefs.  

Beliefs are assumptions about reality, and because you create your experience through your beliefs, you will have many “proofs” that reality operates the way that you think it does.  We influence what we see.  We see what we think is the truth -in our daily experiences and interactions, in our relationships, in ourselves.  We even alter our past memories to reflect what we believe.  We choose to focus on good or bad experiences from our past to reinforce beliefs in our minds about ourselves or our lives.  

So your reality really depends on what you are imagining for yourself and what you believe is possible for you.  This means you can change your reality.  You can change your beliefs.  You can choose to see things in a different way. You can choose different thoughts.  It’s not always easy, but you can do it.  And the more you practice, the easier it gets.  Our mind is really the only thing that we can control, and we do have the power to change it.  

If you change the reality in your mind, you alter the reality that is your future.  And by future, I mean one hour from now, one day, one month, one year, because you are constantly creating and evolving your reality.  Stay positive and focused on the reality that you desire and want to create for yourself.

You are the one who determines your worth.

Buddha said, “You must love yourself before you love another.  You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire Universe, deserve your love and affection.”  If you don’t love and appreciate yourself, how can you expect anyone else to?  We are so loving and accepting of the people in our lives that we care about, but most of us don’t extend that same love and acceptance to ourselves.  We criticize and beat ourselves up, focus on our perceived “flaws", and constantly feel like we need to “better" ourselves in some way.

I've spent most of my life feeling like I wasn’t good enough, focusing on my flaws, and constantly trying to fix what I thought was wrong with me.  I’m tired of beating myself up, of criticizing myself, of always needing to be better somehow.  Self-improvement is great and very important, but there needs to be a balance and an acknowledgment of your successes along the way.  Start appreciating yourself for who you are instead of thinking about who you wish you were or focusing on all the areas in which you feel you are lacking.  Thank yourself for all the good things you are doing instead of criticizing yourself for not doing enough.  Focus on your accomplishments rather than the things you feel you did wrong or haven’t done.  

Don’t allow anyone else to determine your worth.  If you feel like others are not treating you with love and respect, check your price tag.  Notice the value you are placing on yourself.  You may have subconsciously marked yourself down, because it's you who tells others what you're worth by showing them what you are willing to accept for your time and attention. Take yourself off the discount rack. If you don't value and respect yourself, no one else will either.

Do your best, but don't be so hard on yourself. Tell yourself, "I am doing the best I can with what I have in this moment. That is all I can ever expect of anyone, including me.”  The first step in loving yourself more is forgiving yourself for not being perfect.  It is our imperfections that make us unique and original.

Moving forward with joy …and without regret.

There is nothing for you to go back and live over, fix, or feel regret about now.  Every part of your life has unfolded just right.  So… now it’s time to move forward and ask yourself, what do you want?  

Take the time to reflect on your life and the experiences you’ve been given.  Make an effort to seek out the positive aspects and lessons you learned instead of worrying you've made mistakes and dwelling on that awful, waste of time question, “What if?”  Stop regretting the past.  Release the fear that maybe you messed up and chose wrong.  The universe never makes mistakes.  Things happen for a reason and, ideally, you end up making the choices that give you the most growth.  Sometimes growing pains hurt.  

Every experience is giving us more knowledge about ourselves.  I recently learned that I need and want to be with someone who really sees and accepts me and values my opinion.  I didn’t know how important that was to me until I was with someone who didn’t really value me.  I also realized that I wasn’t valuing myself because I was settling for less than what I want.  I now have a better sense of the type of person who will be a good match for me.  Once we figure out what we want and what is right for us, we are on our way to attracting it.

The universe abhors a vacuum.  If you aren’t happy in some area of your life, open yourself up for what you really want.  Create space in your life for someone or something better.  You won’t be able to create or attract what you want if your time and energy is filled up with something else.  Let go of what was, accept what is, and have faith in what will be.

I believe that the whole reason why we’re here, the purpose of life, is personal growth and development.  If we never made any mistakes or had to overcome any setbacks, we wouldn’t have anything to learn or anywhere to go.  We would be stagnant.  Life is messy and not always easy and perfect, but it’s an exciting adventure.  When you can learn to see your mistakes and forgive yourself and vow to make better choices in the future, you have changed for the better.  When you compare yourself to the person you used to be, you realize that you are growing and learning, and that you know much more now than before.

Everyone is on their own journey and judging other people is simply a waste of your energy.  When you are full of judgment toward others, you are are full of judgment toward yourself.  Yes we need to realize our mistakes and learn from them so that we can make better choices in the future, but it’s a waste of time to dwell on the past and on our failures because it stops us from going forward.  We’ve got to focus on what we have learned and appreciate where we are now in order to continue moving forward.  We can always become better than we used to be if we are willing to examine our mistakes, but let’s not beat ourselves up over them.  

If you cannot accept and see worth within yourself, you cannot see it in anyone else either.  When you are able to recognize strengths in yourself, you can see strengths in others and help them to recognize their worth.  So when you catch yourself judging yourself or someone else, remind yourself to take a breath and release those thoughts so that you can continue to become superior to the person you once were.

Act as if.

We’ve all been taught to tell the truth and to "tell it like it is”, but what if  “what is” isn’t what you want?  Things might not be going the way you want them to be and everything might not be as you would like at the moment, but telling the truth doesn’t mean you should be constantly complaining about all the s**t going on in your life.  Circumstances can change and quickly turn in your favor, so we need to try to maintain an optimistic view on life.  Unfortunately, being a pessimist is easier than being an optimist, so it can feel as though you are lying to yourself.  But talking about all the things going wrong just perpetuates them and draws more negativity into your life.  

If everything is not ideal in your life, pretend that it is.  Pretend that you are already living the life that you want and see yourself as the person that you desire to be.  Act as if you already have the money to buy what you want.  Speak as if your life is changing for the better and things are working out in your favor.  

These fantasies will likely feel like you are lying to yourself and denying the truth that you see in this moment, but that is a good thing.  You want to stop yourself from continuing to think and speak about what you don’t want.  You want to be acting as though you are already beginning to embody the person you want to be and living the life you want to live.

You’ve heard the saying “fake it till you make it”.  Sometimes you have to pretend to have the confidence you need to in order to succeed… until one day you realize you’re not pretending anymore.  You’ve become the person you were imagining yourself to be.
